10th Anniversary
WORK PERFORMANCE Celebrates 10th Anniversary!

In 1994, Suzanne Wagar, PT and Patricia Carroll, OTR opened The Work Performance Center, a physical and occupational therapy clinic specializing in workers' compensation injuries. They discovered the ideal location in St. Peters to house their 3000 square foot clinic, in which they simulate their clients' jobs to speed recovery and return to work.

Since opening ten years ago, these two entrepreneurs have expanded services beyond physical and occupational therapy. They consult with industry and business to reduce ergonomic risk factors and injuries in the work place, complete return-to-work assessments, design employee fitness programs and transitional work programs. In 1999, a Wentzville clinic was added to serve western St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren counties.

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary we will be reviewing some of our more interesting cases, starting with our first client.

Case Study #1:

R.W. was a 34 year old framing carpenter with a low back injury of 1½ year’s duration. He was diagnosed with a herniated lumbar disc and had undergone two surgeries: a laminectomy and a spinal fusion. R.W. had been off work 18 months when he was referred to The Work Performance Center. R.W. was doubtful of his ability to return to carpentry as a profession. He had a pain level of 4-5 with continued leg numbness and stabbing pains. R.W. progressed from work conditioning to work hardening, completing a total of 8 weeks of industrial therapy. R.W. returned to work full duty one week after discharge.

10 years later: R.W. continues working. After starting his own residential and commercial remodeling company, he was offered a superintendent position with a construction company. He reports his back is doing “real good”, with “no real problems”.

The Work Performance Difference

Statistics indicate the longer a worker is off work the less likely they will return to work.

R.W. and Work Performance proved the exception to the rule.

The WPC works closely with each client to maximize recovery and return to work.
